The Llyn Land and Seafood Festival is located in the picturesque setting of the Pwllheli Hafan Marina at the south side of the Llyn Peninsula, is held this year on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June. The Festival highlights the fantastic array of local seafood available. Lobsters, Crabs and Scallops are plentiful together with the very finest of Welsh produce including Welsh Beef, Cheeses, Wines and much more.
The Festival is certainly something that you don’t want to miss. If you haven’t attended before we hope this website will provide you with all the information that you need and prompt you to come and join in the fun.
The 2007 Festival is now done and dusted. If you attended then we are sure you’ll agree that it was a great success...if you didn’t, you missed a great show!
A big thanks is again extended to the Welsh Assembly Government for their enlightened, continued and vital support. A particular vote of thanks to the Presiding Officer Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas (who is also our local Assembly Member) - for attending and taking part.
Thanks is also extended to all the exhibitors who contributed in making the atmosphere so relaxed and friendly, and to all the helpers on the day for ensuring things ran as smoothly as they did. (Stand spaces incidentally increased nearly 50% this year). Last, but by no means least, we need to thank the public - both local and visitors - who came and spent their hard earned cash!
Despite an unprecedented and prolonged spell of atrocious wet weather leading up to the Festival last year, visitor numbers were, all things considered, excellent, and according to our exhibitors “spend” was even better that the year before!
Enjoying some of the finest food and drink from producers originating from Wales and beyond -visitors were again subjected to the ever popular ‘try before you buy’ policy which proves to be a major attraction.
Even with an increase in the seating for the cooking demonstrations, it was standing room only to see the likes of the witty Dai Chef, the Daily Post’s Colin Pressdee and our own local chef Mel Thomas cook up some tasty seafood delights. An addition last year, was tutored wine tasting with Paul Richards from Terry Platt Wine Merchants, who treated us to a trio of different wines to sample and whilst we cannot guarantee everybody went home educated – we trust that they went home at least a lot jollier !
Kids had plenty to keep them occupied, with free face painting and a mobile play centre - the Jolly Jungle. Gwynedd Council’s SAC launched their brand new ‘show stand’ at last year’s Festival, with hoards of information about marine life in and around the Llyn, together with interactive games for the children.
Last year’s school competition was again a great success with entries from Ysgol Cymerau, Ysgol Llanystumdwy and Ysgol Nefyn. Last year the children had to come up with a logo which could be used on a day to day basis by Cymdeithas Pysgotwyr, Llyn - the Llyn Fishermen’s Association. They were competing for prizes of £100 donated by the Festival and a £50 voucher donated by Delwedd Web Design, Caernarfon. Standards of the entries were again high last year; therefore the first prize was split between Lleucu Gwawr from Ysgol Nefyn and Ifan Huw Hughes from Ysgol Llanystumdwy – with each school receiving £50. The second prize went to Aled Lloyd Hughes from Ysgol Cymerau. The logo now is in currently use on a day to day basis by the Association. A special mention was also warranted to Ysgol Borthygest for their “Aquarium” effort - which was very well received.
A free prize draw was also conducted at the event, with entrants filling in a market research questionnaire for the chance of winning a bottle of champagne and chocolates donated by Gwin Llyn Wines, Pwllheli and a £50 gift voucher donated by Blue Water Marine, Pwllheli. The lucky winners were Mrs Jane Williams from Chester who won the gift voucher, and Mr and Mrs Heckle from Leek, Staffordshire who won the champagne.
Work has already started to make 2008 an even better experience for all those involved. If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see included, please use the contact section and we will do our best.
