The Development Officer was appointed in October 2003. Mike Parry is based on the Pwllheli office and below are some of the posts that he currently holds or has held in the past - most of which he feels collectively help him on a day to day basis.
By no means exhaustive – it probably gives some indication of his appetite for putting the private sector’s point of view into what are predominantly public sector organisations.
- Development Officer, Llyn Fishermen’s Association
- National Secretary Welsh Federation of Fishermen’s Associations
- Pwllheli Partnership – former Chairman
- SAC Liaison Committee member of some 7 years standing
- Gwynedd Objective 1 Committee member over 5 years
- Pwllheli Sports Club- Honorary Life member
- A Qualified Business Advisor
- Qualified Electrical engineer
- Pwllheli Town Councillor
- Dwyfor District Council – former Chairman
- Pwllheli Round Table – Past Chairman
Mike was instrumental in the establishment of the Welsh Federation of Fishermen’s Associations (WFFA) – which has given a voice for the first time for the industry in Wales.
A great believer in the democratic process, he is very keen for the wider membership to get involved with the running of the Association and the day to day decision making.
There is someone in the office most days and members are encouraged to call in when in town.
On the other hand if there are particular local issues that need Mike to come out – no problem all you need to do is ask!
As part of Phase 2 of the Development Officer’s project an Administrative Assistant was appointed in July 2006. The post is now filled by Yesely Bacigalupo who will happily answer any queries you may have - just use the contact us section.
The Association’s Chairman is Glynne Roberts, who spent 10 years in the merchant navy. Following this he and his wife entered the hospitality industry running two very successful establishments – firstly the Woodlands Hall Hotel in Edern and then the Cliffs Inn in Nefyn. Glynne started fishing in the early seventies potting and lining then moved on to trawling and scalloping. After serving 21½ years on the Porthdinllaen lifeboat (the last two as 2nd coxswain) he was awarded the bronze medal by the RNLI. His knowledge and experience is therefore invaluable to the Association, on which he has served as chairman for over 25 years. Glynne represents the Association by attending numerous meetings lobbying on behalf of our local fishermen; he is also a member of the management committee of the Welsh Federation of Fishermen’s Associations.
He claims his basic credentials are Jack of all trades and master of none! – though even he cannot deny his considerable contribution to the Association.
The Association’s secretary is Owie Roberts and has also been in the post for over 25yrs. Owie was the instigator of the annual Llyn Seafood Festival – which now has over 3000 visitors over the weekend. He has been a member of numerous organisations over the years including Vice Chairman of the Welsh Seafish Training Board, Chairman of the Bye Laws Sub Committee of the North West and North Wales Sea Fisheries Committee, and has represented the Welsh Assembly for over 17yrs.
Owie’s contribution to the growth and success of the Association has been notable with efforts such as securing EEC grants for Safety Equipment and for the Development Officer.
